The third largest urban park in the country. Offering picknicking, swimming, equestian and bicycling trails, golf, archery, pistol ranges, playgrounds, baseball/softball fields, and organized recreation year round. In 1937 the original "Robin Hood" was filmed here in the park amongst the towering oaks and sycamores. Because of its enormous size, the park is divided into two sections: Upper Bidwell and Lower Bidwell. Below you will find a list of trails and recreation areas for both parks.

Caper Acres is located next door to the softball field at one-mile. This is a delightful place for parents to bring their children. A fairy-tale setting featuring a castle, Humpty Dumpty sand play area, tree house with slide, and other fun and exciting mazes and play areas.
Entrance is off of East Eighth Avenue. This has a beautiful setting year-round with eye catching cedar trees, and the home of the Shakespeare in the park production each summer.
Chico Creek Nature Center
Located in Lower Park, provides free nature walks with knowledgeable naturalists, classes, and environmental ed programs are all available. Weekly day camps, including the "Owl Prowl Night Walk".
Most of these must have pre-registration and various events going on throughout the year. The nature museum includes a living display of wildlife and features other displays of nature.

Dam Recreation Area
In the summer enjoy a huge natural swimming hole plus picnic areas with tables and grills. Follow Vallombrosa to the end, turn right on Manzanita, and turn left on Centennial.
This is a great place to go fishing or take a picnic. It is the site for the annual ishing Derby.
Lower Bidwell Park:
The Lower Bidwell Park is about a four-mile long area following Big Chico Creek from downtown to Manzanita Avenue. This lovely park has footpaths and bicycle paths that run through shady oak groves.
One-Mile Dam Recreation Area
The one-mile includes Sycamore Pool, a softball field, horseshoe pits, and picnic areas with grills. This is very close to downtown and can be accesse from Fourth or Fifth Streets.
South Rim Trail
This trail is less used and can be very rugged. It begins where Centennial Avenue deadends into Chico Canyon Road and runs above Bidwell Golf Course, into the south side of the canyon.Hooker Oak Recreation Area.

Upper Bidwell Park:
North Rim Trail
Starts at Wildwood Avenue, close to the entrance of Upper Park. Enjoy hiking, biking and horseback riding.
